GLP-1 Injection Site Rotation Guide: Schedule, Body Map & Printable Log (2026)
Rotate Mounjaro, Wegovy, Ozempic and Zepbound injection sites with an eight-zone schedule, body map planner, printable log tips and FAQ. Avoid repeating the same spot.

Injection site rotation is the detail most people intend to do but forget by week three — until they inject the same patch of stomach twice in a row and wonder why it is tender.
This guide covers approved areas, an eight-zone schedule, a printable tracking method, medication-specific notes for Mounjaro, Wegovy, Ozempic and Zepbound, and the free tools that make rotation automatic.
Approved GLP-1 injection site locations
For Mounjaro, Zepbound, Wegovy and Ozempic pens, typical sites include those listed in the Zepbound how-to-use guide and Wegovy prescribing information:
| Area | Practical tip | | --- | --- | | Abdomen | At least ~5 cm (2 inches) from the navel; divide into quadrants | | Front of thigh | Outer/front thigh — avoid the inner thigh crease | | Back of upper arm | Often easier with a partner; confirm your leaflet |
Your pen instructions and clinician are the authority — see also Mounjaro's injection guidance. This guide focuses on rotation habits, not needle technique.

Eight-zone rotation schedule
A practical weekly pattern many trackers use:
| Week | Zone | | --- | --- | | 1 | Abdomen — upper left | | 2 | Abdomen — upper right | | 3 | Abdomen — lower left | | 4 | Abdomen — lower right | | 5 | Left thigh | | 6 | Right thigh | | 7 | Left upper arm | | 8 | Right upper arm |
Then repeat. Rules of thumb:
- Never the same zone two weeks in a row if you can avoid it
- Stay ~2.5 cm (1 inch) from last month’s nick inside a zone
- Skip bruised, scarred or tender skin
- If you miss a week, resume at the next zone — do not “make up” by double-injecting one spot
Free body map planner
The injection site rotation planner lets you:
- Tap where you injected on a simple body map
- See green / amber / red zones based on recency
- Get a suggested next site automatically
- Keep history in your browser (nothing uploaded)

Printable tracking method
Digital planners are great until a clinic visit wants paper. Two options:
1. Printable 12-week injection log
The free GLP-1 injection log includes columns for date, dose, injection site, weight and side effects. Print or Save as PDF, then tick sites by hand.
Companion guide: Free GLP-1 injection log printable.
2. Simple paper grid
Draw an 8-box grid matching the schedule above. Date each box when used. Bring the sheet to titration reviews.
3. App timeline
For reminders and long-term history, log each shot in the injection tracker inside GLPPal — site + dose + how you felt that week.

Medication-specific rotation notes
Mounjaro (tirzepatide)
Weekly KwikPen. Abdomen, thigh and upper arm are the usual areas. Many people start on the abdomen for ease, then introduce thighs/arms so tissue gets a break during the multi-month titration ladder. Log the dose strength with the site — tenderness at 10 mg on a reused spot is a different story from week-one 2.5 mg.
Wegovy (semaglutide)
Weekly pen with the same core site map. Because titration steps last weeks, an eight-zone rotation fits cleanly into a two-month cycle. If nausea peaks after injection day, note site anyway — it rarely changes nausea, but it proves you rotated when asked.
Ozempic (semaglutide)
Same weekly semaglutide family as Wegovy for practical site planning. Whether you use it for type 2 diabetes or weight management, rotation protects tissue. Keep a consistent weekday + rotating zone so “I forgot” is less likely.
Zepbound (tirzepatide)
Same molecule family as Mounjaro for site habits. Follow the Zepbound KwikPen instructions for approved areas and technique; use the same eight-zone planner so US and dual-brand users do not reinvent the map.
Common questions
Does the stomach absorb better than the thigh?
For most people on labelled weekly pens, approved sites are all acceptable. Comfort and rotation matter more than chasing a “best” site for weight loss.
What if I only like one area?
Rotate within that area (left/right, upper/lower abdomen) at minimum, and introduce another area every few weeks if your clinician agrees.
Can I reuse a site after it feels fine?
Yes after adequate healing time — the planner’s green/amber/red recency colours help. Soft rule: give a spot at least a few weeks before returning.
Should I ice or rub the area?
Follow your pen leaflet. Avoid injecting through irritated skin; ask a pharmacist about aftercare if you bruise easily.
